The vision of a place evokes the condition of matter which embraces soul as the flesh does with a person. The matter of the place is that one which nature and time have produced in the land where that place is. In Southern Sicily, bitumen and limestone generated pitch stone. Looking at it, come to mind the brown of the plowed earth and the complexions of the Moors. I imagined a sink like a whale tail, petrified in the act of plunging into the ground, in the impossible attempt to reach the sea. Running water through it is like ensuring temporary nourishment and restoring the original freshness of its element.
